This new certification is great news for food manufacturers who want to certify their food with this important quality attribute: food free from Glyphosate residues! Consumers will benefit as well because organic and nonGMO Verified Project labels do not necessarily mean foods are Glyphosate or Roundup-free. Glyphosate is the most used and abused herbicide in history! Roundup is a pesticide toxin sprayed on GMO crops as part of the pesticide-dependent GMO crop system, but many people are unaware it is often used as a pre-harvest crop ripener on nonGMO crops. In this application, it essentially kills the plant to facilitate harvesting of many conventional crops like beans, peas, chick peas, and other plants. The Glyphosate toxin remains on the food part of the plant and accumulates on foods, lacking Federal government review or limits on residue accumulation from multiple sprays. So many people have no idea they are regularly ingesting a pesticide toxin (which has also been patented by Monsanto as an antibiotic) at their dining tables. Over time, the sublethal chemical doses of Glyphosate can lead to a myriad of health problems.
Do you like your food, wine, and other beverages pesticide free? GMO-related approvals lacking robust risk assessment, and open marketplace experimentation (without consumer consent!), will continue to pose obstacles to source healthy, untainted food…..unless consumers keep wallets closed to GMO. Monsanto’s flawed and failing GMO technology continues to be exposed with increasing pesticide resistance to Roundup’s active Glyphosate ingredient. Meanwhile, USDA continues to dangerously greenlight triple-stacked GMO pesticide tolerant and next generation engineered plants, with inadequate risk assessment. Resultant casualties can include those individuals growing and wanting to eat crops from organic and sustainable farming methods, as well as toxic pesticide fallout on whole ecosystems! Unless a plant is genetically engineered to tolerate 2 additional chemical sprays (that have been approved for GMO crops without appropriate consideration to farmers’ non GMO plants and homeowner gardens), all vegetation can be harmed due to atmospheric drift of volatile Dicamba and 2,4-D. http://www.ecowatch.com/wine-monsanto-dow-dicamba-2-4-d-2177053648.html
Soils and ecosystems will also be receiving much higher pesticide dousings in the New Year as more toxic pesticide technology is rolled out. As a consequence, health care costs will likely rise from the toxic spray drift residues ending up on food you consume. The US government doesn’t routinely measure or inform consumers about such contamination.
In a further development to expand this pernicious GMO monoculture agricultural technology, a Monsanto merger with Bayer, will likely expedite the global spread of this newer genetically engineered plant technology. What is very sinister about this new triple stacked GMO pesticide-dependent technology is that it is truly intolerant of native plant ecosystems and nonGMO farming, including your backyard garden patch. You won’t know you’re on the receiving end of pesticide toxins until your plants silently succumb or your health is compromised. So in this new year we must all remain vigilant and actively hold our decision makers to be accountable to the American people, especially when health care and agriculture are on the table.
Stop this fraudulent labeling bill [S. 764] in its tracks to save GMO labeling! Important message from Consumers Union: The Senate just voted to block all state GMO labeling laws, including the historic Vermont bill that went into effect on July 1st. Defying Vermont’s citizens and consumers nationwide who want easy-to-read labels, some Senators sold us out to Big Food and Big Ag. It’s outrageous that our elected officials are siding with Monsanto and food industry lobbyists to thwart consumers’ interests to know critical ingredients in our food, especially due to the scientific-acknowledged creation of new potentially allergenic proteins from the GMO process itself. Having cleared the Senate, this new anti-labeling bill is headed to the House – but it’s not too late for us to speak up for GMO transparency. Contact President Obama to VETO this bill. Also HERE
Consumerist gives you the real scoop, even the FDA doesn’t like this bill! “When the text of the bill, written by Sen. Pat Roberts (KS) and Sen. Debbie Stabenow (MI) — who have received a total of more than $2.1 million in campaign contributions from agribusiness donors this year alone — was first released, the Food and Drug Administration responded with a Technical Assistance Memo [PDF] that outlines the potential for new loopholes.https://consumerist.com/2016/07/12/federal-gmo-labeling-bill-opens-more-loopholes-than-it-closes/
From NY Times: “The biggest problem with the Senate bill is that — instead of requiring a simple label, as the Vermont law does — it would allow food companies to put the information in electronic codes that consumers would have to scan with smartphones or at scanners installed by grocery stores. The only reason to do this would be to make the information less accessible to the public.” http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/07/opinion/a-flawed-approach-to-labeling-genetically-modified-food.html?_r=0
From Bloomberg article today: Americans Are Buying Gene-Edited Food That’s Labeled Non-GMO “Products made possible through gene-editing have landed on grocery shelves. Whether they’ll stay there is up to shoppers wary of technological tinkering.”and ““There’s an overall distrust of Big Food and Big Science.” “Doug Gurian-Sherman, director of sustainable agriculture at the Center for Food Safety, said today’s conversations about gene-editing remind him of GMOs in the 1990s — the rhetoric is lofty and promises abound about healthier food and drought tolerance. “This is largely unproven” Gurian-Sherman said. (quotes from Bloomberg article).
Monsanto and other agribiotech companies along with food companies represented by the Grocery Manufactures Association will be acting soon in a big push to try to permanently promote the toxin-dependent GMO technology on consumers in 2016. Consumers spoke up loudly to Congressional representatives last year with success. But a renewed push replete with ample industry $$$ is expected to threaten genuine GMO labeling efforts shortly. “They now plan to throw everything at a dedicated bill in January to preempt labeling by using these ridiculous QR codes” constituting a voluntary “Smart Label”according to a just published article.
Monsanto is at it again trying to squash World Health Organization (WHO) finding that Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup is a probable carcinogen. As has been Monsanto’s custom when scientific findings are contrary to the health of their profit model, they are now attempting to refute the determination by the World Health Organization that glyphosate is a probable human carcinogen with a new scientific panel (12 of the 16 panel members have been associated with Monsanto in the past). Additionally, the US Senate could take up already passed HR1599 which would Deny Americans the Right to Know (DARK Act) what’s in their food and promote GMOs under a “Natural” label this session. And Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan) introduced a bill that would preempt states’ rights to enact GMO labeling laws.
Bottom line is the need to contact with your US Congressional members now to defend your and your states’ rights to move forward legitimate GMO labeling bills like Senator Blumenthal’s bill. This is the most opportune time to get real GMO labeling done and start to curtail our health care problems stemming from the unlabeled genetically engineered foods silently allowed into our food supply by government. And the special interests are moving quickly and with $$$ to gain influence.

Koch Brothers $299,000 helps to block genuine GMO labeling in the US House of Representatives by contributing to voting for voluntary labeling for HR 1599, contrary to mandatory GMO labeling the majority of American people want. Are US representatives going to listen to the people or continue to be bought by special interest money? In CT, the full House OF Representatives delegation voted against HR 1599, and so did most of New England. See which Representatives voted Yes for the Industry backed bill and how many voted NO on the special interest-promoted bill in favor of the peoples’ interests here. If passed in the Senate in September, HR 1599 would override laws in those states who have already passed Right to Know GMO labeling laws, which the majority of Americans favor! Congress is on summer break until the fall. Stay tuned to this critical issue as wholesome, unprocessed, VERIFIED nonGMO food is at the root of good health, and special interests do not want you to know about the health issues associated with genetically engineered foods.
TIME SENSITIVE: Act Now Against Industry-Backed GMO Food Labeling Bill HR 1599! HR 1599, which special interests are pushing to usurp state laws and push weak food labeling standards (also enabling back door entry of GMO ingredients into our food supply, many of which will lack robust risk assessment.) This will further perpetrate a continuing real-time experiment on the American people and people all around the world who have no idea of what’s going on. PR minions have covered up the real intent of the GMO labeling bill to avoid mandatory GMO labeling by deceptively naming HR 1599 the” Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015″. It is vitally important to do homework and speak up NOW or Congress will likely act against the peoples’ interests. **IMPORTANT** CONTACT YOUR CONGRESSMAN HERE TO SAY NO TO HR 1599 Once these ingredients are slipped into our supermarket foods, the likelihood of newly-created proteins increases, with more new food allergens being created (Note:Presently our government lacks robust risk assessment to test for GMO related allergens). For over 20 years, US children have been experiencing unprecedented numbers of allergies to foods since unlabeled GMO foods and ingredients were silently slipped into our food supply in the 1990’s. Without mandatory labeling, there can be no investigations or tracking by doctors, medical authorities or parents to help determine the causes of new allergies. As noted above, a main objection to HR 1599 is that it overrides and suppresses local and state labeling laws, which are enacted by representatives who are most responsive to their local populations (us!). It is increasingly evident that many of our national “representatives” of either party are bought and sold by special interests.
